Parkgate 1-1 Borrowash Vics

The second semi-final of the Teversal Tournament was a Yorkshire v Derbyshire affair. The Rotherham club scraped through 3-2 on penalties after the game ended all square at the end of 90 minutes. They now face Staveley in the final on Saturday - a re-run of last years final.
Great company at Teversal again, but the game left a lot to be desired, to be brutally honest. True, it was better than Monday's game, but at least that had only one missed penalty - on this occasion these teams had 6 each, with Parkgate winning 3-2 eventually!  Five scored out of twelve!!!!

I was with Rob Waite and Chris Berezi for the entire game - and this pairing is guaranteed to keep one entertained  - something the football was sadly failing to do.  Chris is a real serial hopper, and I don't think there are many places he hasn't been to. Known throughout the hopper world as Aggedor, Chris has more tales to tell than a bloke that tells tales. Rob was accompanied at this game by someone called Kidney Stones apparently, but thankfully I never got to meet him.

Not much to report on the match itself, but one thing was noticable, the Parkgate management were calm and collected throughout, but the flow of invective and the overuse of the f word from the Borrowash dugout makes you wonder at times if those involved really, I mean, really, enjoy the game!! H-T 0-0

An 18 yard low drive from Rory Maxwell beat Jamie Bailey at his near post on 67 to give Vics the lead, a lead they held onto until the 89th minute.  We were all saying our "cheerios" when a Parkgate corner lead to a bit of the old "panic stations" in the Vics area. The action culminated with Janni Lipka firing home through a crowd of players, taking us into the lottery that is the penalty shoot-out. F-T 1-1

Borrowash keeper Steve Smith saved three of the Parkgate kicks, but to say that the the efforts were woeful is not derisory - the teams managed to hit the net only 5 times out of twelve attempts - one went so high over the bar that NASA are now tracking it! Ended up 3-2 to Parkgate.
